Clay Scovill's NCAA Experience - Thursday

Mar 19, 2009

Ok, so I read Donte's blog and I have a lot to live up for today. Luckily we didn't have a second of spare time today so I have a lot to write about.  We had to get up today at 8:45 for a 9 o'clock breakfast.  If you know our teams sleeping habits this is a crazy feat to accomplish.  So we had a pretty nice spread at breakfast and got to size up the competition.  I think we are looking pretty good to do some things this weekend if we play up to our ability.

Right after breakfast we went to a local elementary school to read and talk to the kids.  I was with Mike Baker and James McNally, and were humbled when 1st graders were about to outshoot us on a nerf net.  The kids were great and also wanted to know how much we got paid to play.  Don't worry (F &M, NCAA) we don't take bribes.

We then returned for the lunch of champions at Subway.  Luckily, we were able to catch about half an hour of the Division I tournament.  Then it was back on the bus for practice.  Right before we got on the floor we took a team picture that will be cool to look back on.  The locker rooms were nice as well, the carpeted floors and clock connected to the scoreboard were the main focus for a lot of guys.

The Salem Civic Center is a great arena for basketball.  Not too big to overwhelm you but probably holds about  10, 000.  It is an awesome place for D-3 hoops.  It was awesome to see our name on the banner on the scorers table.  So we got through practice pretty much uninjured and intact mentally.  We finished practice with Georgio, Ant and Donte throwing oops to each other, and Danny, James, Tim, and Mike throwing up half court shots.

We had to get back quick and get "fly" as Ant would say for the championship banquet.  Everyone was dressed in their best with the highlight being James' cream colored jacket.  The banquet was good, we had some chicken and roast beef along with every dessert you could have.  Then we saw a nice little highlight video they put together for the teams.  After that it was time for speeches.  Somehow, I was selected to speak for our team and I'm not going to lie, I was pretty nervous.  I hope I did well for our team and our school.

To end the night we came back to the hotel and believe it or not some guys are doing homework.  Awesome, day but very tired. I will sign out for now until my main man Anthony Brooks (star of D3Hoops.com's Hoopsville - check out the archive) gets on the pen.

Talk to you later,

Clay Scovill
